Run for
The Africa Centre
Dr. King SMADE is running 26.2 miles at the 2026 London Marathon to raise £100,000 for The Africa Centre — the UK's most important institution for African arts, culture and dialogue. Join the movement. Protect our cultural home.
60 Years of Cultural Legacy
For over six decades, The Africa Centre has been a home away from home for the African diaspora in Britain — a place where artists, thinkers, and communities gather to celebrate, create, and connect. The institution has contributed to the journeys of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Wole Soyinka, Ben Okri, Jazzie B and Soul II Soul.
Founded in 1961, the building at 38 King Street, Covent Garden, was gifted "to the people of Africa in perpetuity." Now, as the Centre faces significant financial pressures, the community is rallying to secure its future.
The Africa Centre belongs to all of us. It was gifted to the people of Africa over 60 years ago. Now we need our community to help us ensure that it will be around for at least another 60 years. As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, this campaign shows how the African diaspora comes together to honour heritage and invest in the future.
